The Sahara Desert is the largest desert in the world. It is bigger than the four next largest deserts put together. It is as vast as the whole of the United States of America including most of Alaska and nearly as big as the whole of Europe.
The Sahara Desert was once green with trees and plants. Giraffes, elephants, and rhinos wandered across it. We know this because they are shown in rock paintings found in south-east Algeria, drawn thousands of years ago.
Even as recently as the 1820s a French explorer heard lions roaring in the forest where now there is only desert. The world’s deserts are growing bigger. Snakes are reptiles. They belong to the same group as lizards (the scaled group, Squamata) but for a sub-group of their own (Serpents).
Snakes have two legs but a long time ago they had claws to help them slither along. Snakes are not slimy. They are covered in scales which are just bumps on the skin. Their skin is hard and glossy to reduce friction as the snake slither along the ground.
Most snakes live in the country. Some types of snakes live in trees, some live in water, but mostly in the ground. A snake diet usually consists of frogs, lizards, and mice and other snakes. The Anaconda can eat small crocodiles and even wild boards.
Many snakes protect themselves with their fangs. Boa Constrictors can give you a bear hug which is so powerful it can crush every single bone in your body. Its technique is just like sugar gliders.

I decided to spend my holiday in Bali because there were so many interesting places to see. I wanted to see them as much as possible.
It was Wednesday afternoon when I arrived at Kuta Hotel. I spent the first three days surfing at Kuta Beach. I enjoyed this activity very much because it was challenging and exciting.
On the fourth day of my tour I drove on through mountains. Singaraja was a city of about 90 thousands people. It was a busy, beautiful but quiet town. The streets were lined with trees. There were many Old Dutch houses. I stayed in Singaraja Great Hotel for two days. It was located at the center of the town. It was a very luxurious and comfortable hotel.
I continued my tour to Ubud on the sixth day. It was a very different tour. This time I did not enjoy the scenery but I wanted to see the art and the craft of the island. The first stop was at Batubulan, a center of stone sculpture. There I watched some young boys were carving away at big blocks of stone. The next stop was Celuk, a center for silversmiths and goldsmiths. After that I stopped a little while for lunch at Sukowati.
On the following day I spent my whole day at the beach. I went swimming with some local children. Then I returned to hotel and pack my suitcase. My plane took off at five thirty in the evening.
My holiday ended very quickly. I was extremely satisfied.
